New LAUSD Graduation RequirementsAfter a healthy debate over how to make an LAUSD diploma meaningful to gain entry into college and the workforce in the 21st century, the Board of Education voted 5-2 Tuesday to change the credits needed to graduate, from 230 to 210, for the Class of 2016 and make “C” a passing grade for the Class of 2017 and beyond. The changes go hand-in-hand with the fall 2012 implementation of the A-G college prep graduation requirements approved in 2005.
